Simple Time Management Techniques

Time management techniques do not have to be complicated formulas and algorithms. In fact, the best ways to manage time are simple. My favorites are;

1. Get rid of clutter. It is so difficult to do anything when you are working around clutter. Stacks of stuff and undone tasks always seem to get in the way, slow you down and distract you from doing the things you want to do. I know there are some people who seem to work well around a mountain of their clutter, but not many. Most productive people keep their clutter to a minimum. My daughter just came to live with me full time. My apartment was set up for me and my teenage son. Now we are adding her and the stuff that a young girl needs. The first thing I did was get rid of a bunch of clutter. I took 2 carloads of my stuff to charity. I threw away a bunch of stuff. I put a bunch of clutter in the basement and did some consolidating. Now my place looks really good. The thing that helped the most was getting rid of the clutter.

2. Hustle. All motivated people hustle more than the average person. Some really productive people are moving fast all the time and are continually getting things done. I do not fall into the camp of continually working but I do tend to hustle and get whatever needs to be done quickly. The people who go by the motto - Haste makes waste - are way too slow moving for me. You just cannot go wrong by hustling. I do not mean to be careless. I mean to do whatever can be done fast, quickly. It is so much more satisfying to get stuff done fast, than slow.

3. Actually work. A lot of the time people will say they are working all the time and spend a lot of time working, but on close examination, they are not really working all that much. They may spend a lot of time on the job but they are usually frittering away the day doing things that do not have to be done or that are trivial. A big part of the problem is that a lot of people do not even realize that what they are doing is just nonsense, either created by them or others.

4. Get organized and stay organized. Time spent doing this will reward you with more and more free time the more you concentrate on it and do it. The more organized you are, the better your life will be.

Once you get in the habit of getting rid of clutter, hustling and actually working at what needs to be worked on as your main time management techniques your productivity and satisfaction with your work and your life will skyrocket.

One of the best time management techniques is to be proactive. This is basically doing all the things you normally do and need to do early rather than later. These things have to be done, so the earlier you do them the better your life will be.

Do you procrastinate? Do you think you are lazy and unmotivated? The real reason you may not be getting things done is that your life is being spent doing things you do not want to do. You need to examine all aspects of your life and determine if you are actually living the life you want or if you are being lived.
